Dark Screen (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. We believe in complete transparency.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what is strictly necessary to provide the service:

  • Email address: When you create an account, we store your email address to authenticate you and associate your subscription with your account.
  • Password hash: Your password is hashed using bcrypt before storage. We never store plain-text passwords and cannot recover them.
  • Subscription data: If you purchase a paid plan, we store your plan name, status, and expiry date. Payments are processed by third-party providers (Robokassa for card payments, CryptoCloud for cryptocurrency) — we do not store card numbers, wallet keys, or other payment credentials.
  • Extension settings (global and per-site): The extension stores your preferences locally in the browser via chrome.storage.local — including global options (default mode, brightness, contrast, background color, schedule) and per-website settings (for each site where you use Dark Screen: the site hostname such as example.com, mode dark/filtered/normal, brightness, and contrast). With an active paid subscription and when you are signed in, we collect and store this configuration on our servers so you can open it in your account dashboard, back it up in the cloud, and sync or import the same setup on another computer or browser after signing in with the same account. We do not store full page URLs or page content — only extension configuration linked to site hostnames.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We explicitly do not collect:

  • Full browsing history or full URLs of individual pages you view
  • Page content or any data from the pages you view
  • Your IP address (beyond what is standard in any HTTP request)
  • Device information, OS version, or hardware identifiers
  • Analytics or tracking data from extension usage
  • Any personally identifiable information beyond your email address

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information as follows:

  • Email: Authentication, subscription management, and transactional emails (account confirmation, password resets, payment receipts). We do not use your email for marketing without your explicit consent, and we never sell it.
  • Extension settings: To apply your dark-mode preferences in the browser, show and edit per-site rules in your dashboard, and — for subscribers — sync settings across devices so you can continue on another computer with the same site-by-site setup.

4. Chrome Extension Permissions

The Dark Screen Chrome extension requests the following permissions and uses them as described:

  • storage: Save global and per-site dark mode settings locally. With a paid subscription, settings sync to your account when signed in so they can be restored or imported on another device.
  • activeTab: Apply dark mode to the tab you are currently viewing when you interact with the extension popup.
  • scripting: Inject the CSS filter styles that enable dark mode on pages.
  • contextMenus: Add a “Toggle Dark Mode” option to the right-click menu for convenience.
  • host_permissions (<all_urls>): Required to apply dark mode on any website you visit. The extension never reads page content — it only applies CSS styles.

5. Data Storage and Security

  • Account data (email, password hash, subscription) is stored on our secure servers.
  • Passwords are hashed with bcrypt (cost factor 12) and are never stored in plain text.
  • All API communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
  • Authentication tokens (JWT) expire after 30 days.
  • Extension settings are stored in Chrome's built-in encrypted storage; for subscribers, per-site and global settings are also stored on our servers over HTTPS for backup and cross-device sync.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third parties:

  • Robokassa: Card and other standard payment methods for paid subscriptions. Our public offer for Robokassa payments: oferta_5503115840.docx. See also Robokassa's Privacy Policy. We receive payment confirmation and subscription status only; we do not store your card details.
  • CryptoCloud: Optional cryptocurrency payments for paid subscriptions. See CryptoCloud's documentation on cryptocloud.plus. We receive payment confirmation and subscription status only; we do not store wallet keys or crypto credentials.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other marketing trackers.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained for as long as your account is active.
  • You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
  • Upon account deletion, your email and password hash are permanently removed within 30 days.
  • Subscription records may be retained for up to 7 years for legal and tax purposes.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Update your email address through your account settings.
  • Deletion: Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Portability: Export your extension settings using the Import/Export feature in the extension settings page.
  • Objection: You may opt out of any non-essential communications at any time.

9. Children's Privacy

Dark Screen is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
